Current U of SC Students

If you are already enrolled at the University of South Carolina and want teach secondary science or mathematics, then you have THREE options:

    1. You can transfer to the Middle Level Education major for teaching in grades 5 to 8. To do this, you will want to speak to an advisor in Student Affairs.

    2. You can enroll in the 5th Year Master of Teaching (MT) program for teaching in high school grades 9 to 12. To do this, you will need to have completed your BS degree in science or mathematics and completed the 12-hour education core classes. You can then apply to UofSC Graduate School to complete the 5th Year MT program.

    3. If you want to teach high school grades 9 to 12 and are nearing your undergraduate degree and have not completed core science and teaching programs and/or the 12-hour education core classes, then you will want to take the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program path. To do this, you will need to speak to an advisor about the necessary classes you need to take and you will also need to apply to graduate school.
